Steven Clark

I carve wooden spoons and small kitchen tools, beginning with green-wood branches and trees that fall during storms or are otherwise headed for disposal. Most of the wood I work with comes from here in Needham, giving each piece a direct connection to the local landscape.

My work is rooted in paying attention — to the character of each tree, the grain and shape it offers, and the quiet role these tools play in daily life. I’m less interested in perfection than in honesty: allowing knots, curves, and natural variation to remain visible as reminders of where the material came from.

In addition to one-of-a-kind pieces, I create commissioned spoons that are personalized to reflect individual interests, stories, or relationships. These commissions often become meaningful keepsakes, connecting a functional object to a specific person or moment in time.
