Jeanne Rosier Smith – Ocean Waves: Painting Motion

For this year’s joint artist demonstration with the Wellesley Society of Artists, we are pleased to welcome award-winning painter Jeanne Rosier Smith for a pastel demonstration. Jeanne is best known for her seascapes, and she will share how she gives her ocean waves movement and life, finding a balance between definition and suggestion. How can we capture a sense of life and reality when the subject is motion? How can we create the feeling, the sound, the spray of waves?

Jeanne Rosier Smith is a designated Eminent Pastelist with the International Association of Pastel Societies, a Pastel Society of America Master Pastelist, and is a Copley Society Master Artist. She has won many top national awards, has both written for and been featured in numerous national art publications, and her work has been exhibited at the Massachusetts State House, the Guild of Boston Artists, the National Arts Club, and museums around the United States. Jeanne has served as an educational consultant to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where she has given demonstrations and gallery talks, and she offers her workshops and videos on demand.
