In 2021, Needham Art Association partnered with the Needham Council for Arts and Culture to help energize the downtown business area by transforming vacant storefronts into mini art galleries with works by local artists on display.
Like communities across Massachusetts, Needham experienced the loss of small businesses who were impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. This initiative aims to keep the downtown business areas attractive while giving artists and small businesses the opportunity to showcase their work.
The first Storefronts Needham project was located at 1502 Highland Avenue. Centre Realty Group, which owns the building, donated the space for the pop-up gallery while it worked to secure a new tenant for the property. Until then, the exhibit rotated every three weeks, providing ample opportunity for our artists to display their work.
A special thank you to Charly Nanda, Needham Council for the Arts and Culture and Hilary Bruel, NAA’s Marketing and Communications Chair, who managed and coordinated the NAA artists participating in the rotating exhibits.
